Boys fall in senior night
Iowa City Regina lost their Senior Night home finale to Williamsburg Saturday
night 58-34. Zach O'Connell was honored for scoring 1000 points in his career
and he and the four other seniors, Max Tunning, Owen Gerard, Derek Hanrahan
and Shane Carney, all of whom started, were honored before the game with a
recitation of their achievements and involvement in activities and then
attended a reception after the game.
Williamsburg was led by the sparkling play of sophomore point guard and
sharpshooter Chad Melloy with 18, and big man Bryce Von Ahsen with 18.
Tunning and O'Connell led Regina with 7 each. Kevin Arnold and Owen Gerard
had 8 and 7 rebounds respectively, as Regina won the rebounding battle 26-25.
Regina was tied after one quarter.
Coach Larson said "I appreciate what wonderful 3 and 4-sport athletes all
these seniors have been. They truly epitomize the Regina athlete who plays
all sports and demonstrates great determination to go along with their faith.
Though the season has had its' disappointments, they never stopped trying and
were always good teammates and good guys to be around. We have passed and
shot so poorly all year that unfortunately, nights like tonight when we shot
13-52 have been more common than outrageous. I thought when the game was
being decided our defense was pretty good."
Regina opens District play at Wellman Monday night at 6:30 against Wapello.

with wins over Williamsburg.
